Director, Corporate Business Development
Business Development - Build partnerships, develop programs and secure resources to advance IYF’s vision, mission and strategic plan.

TITLE:
Director, Corporate Business Development

SUPERVISOR:
Vice-President, Business Development

PURPOSE:
Play a leadership role in securing resources from a variety of business sector sources, for the development of new programs and partnerships that support IYF’s strategic priorities; and work closely with IYF program staff and donors to develop programs to benefit young people worldwide.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work closely with the CEO, VP of Business Development, Senior Management Team and IYF’s Board of Directors to develop new partnerships and secure new resources from US and non-US corporate sector.
  • Work with the CEO and VP of Business Development to develop and manage corporate sector fundraising goals, strategies and plan. Provide support for the monitoring and tracking of corporate sector resource development activities as well as preparation of resource development reports for the Senior Management Team and the Board.
  • Identify potential new funding opportunities both in the United States and abroad, by responding to solicitations and through the identification of unique opportunities that IYF can provide to corporate donors. Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with all donors.
  • Lead and manage the conceptualization and development of new innovative programs, as well as the enhancement and expansion of ongoing programs, working closely with corporate donors, program staff, local partner organizations and strategic partners.
  • Work in close coordination with staff of program Centers (Education, Employment, Health, Leadership and Engagement) and supporting Departments (Communications, Finance, Administration & IT) to ensure the successful delivery of corporate resource development activities. Coordinate efforts with the Communications Department and the Director of Major Gifts related to major individual giving.
  • Work with IYF’s large public sector funded programs (e.g., entra 21, Education and Employment Alliance, Empowering Africa’s Young People Initiative) to support private sector leverage requirements.
  • Represent the organization at major corporate conferences and events, particularly with a focus on corporate social responsibility, community involvement and/or public-private partnerships for international development, including preparation and delivery of presentations related to these events.
  • Provide technical support to program staff and in-country partner organizations for proposal development, program design, project planning, and budget development. Lead and prepare briefing papers, concept papers, proposals and budgets for planning and funding new corporate programs.
  • Participate and contribute to organizational, departmental and programmatic Center meetings involving corporate resource mobilization goals, strategies and plans.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Advanced degree in a field relevant to IYF’s mission and programs (e.g., business, marketing, social science, international relations or public policy).
  • 7-8 years of experience in fundraising, program development and/or program management in the international development sector, with a proven track record in business development.
  • Strong proposal development, writing and editing experience, targeting resource development with corporate donors. Experience in the corporate sector or with foundation fundraising also a plus.
  • Knowledge or experience in youth development work preferred and/or background in education, employability, health, or youth leadership development
  • Strong network of relationships with international corporations as well as experience and ability to establish partnerships with business and foundations.
  • Ability to make judgments, assume responsibility, and work independently in a fast paced environment is essential. Analytical ability to identify and establish priorities, and attend to all details in a professional manner is required. Initiative, creativity, reliability, flexibility, thoroughness, and accuracy are critical.

  • Strong interpersonal skills appropriate for operating effectively in a multicultural, international environment.
  • Excellent computer skills using MS Office products including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong oral and written English communication skills. Fluency in a second language is preferred.
  • Excellent time management and handling of multiple tasks.
  • Ability to manage international travel as needed.
