Bridgeit Digital Content Specialist – Tanzania

Job Purpose
The International Youth Foundation (IYF) is a nonprofit organization that seeks to improve the conditions and prospects of children and youth around the world. IYF is currently seeking a Digital Content Specialist for the two-year Bridgeit Tanzania project. The project seeks to increase the educational quality and achievement among boys and girls in primary schools in math, science, and life skills through the innovative use of cell phone and digital technology.

Job Responsibilities
The Digital Content Specialist’s role will be to assist the Bridgeit Project’s adaptation and development of digital content as part of the curriculum supporting the Bridgeit program in Tanzanian schools. During the first year of the project, the Digital Content Specialist will work with international Digital Content Specialist, IYF staff, and government and private sector partners to identify digital content needs, and adapt digital curriculum content; in the second year, he/she will focus on the coordination and development of new digital content in close consultation with the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training as well as the Tanzania Institute of Education.

Specific Tasks
The Digital Content Specialist will be responsible for the following specific tasks:

  • Assist in reviewing existing digital content from IYF’s Elsa/Text2Teach Philippines project and Pearson foundation in order to understand the needs and opportunities for adaptation to Tanzanian primary schools;
  • Assist in identifying digital content providers who can be contracted to develop or adapt video or audio content aligned with the MoEVT curriculum for selected subject areas (e.g. Math and Science);
  • Participate in curriculum review workshops with curriculum and lesson planning experts in order to understand the content needs and how video content should be adapted or developed in response to these needs;
  • Work with IYF, MoEVT, and Tanzanian Institute for Education (TIE) to identify content needed to be created locally and help solicit bids for video and audio companies to either dub existing content or create new content;
  • Help with set-up of digital editing system, organizing of production equipment and oversee the work and delivery schedules of contracted digital content providers, in coordination with the Bridgeit Chief Advisor and the International Digital Content Specialist;
  • Assist in the adaptation and/or production of video content for lesson plans, based on the curriculum framework established by project, in coordination with Bridgeit international Digital Content Specialist and relevant MoEVT and TIE resource people.
  • Participate in the pre-testing of all digital content in pre-pilot schools for effectiveness and use with girls (quality screening), and work with the International Digital Content Specialist to make necessary revisions;
  • Oversee the finalization of all digital content pre-tested for program launching in coordination with Bridgeit international Digital Content Specialist;
  • Transfer skills in digital content editing and production to relevant MoEVT and TIE counterparts, as needed.
  • Participate in periodic meetings and phone calls, as needed, in order to ensure effective project communication and planning;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Reporting and key relationships

  • Supervised by the Bridgeit Chief Advisor;
  • Work closely with the International Digital Content Specialist, IYF staff in Tanzania and Baltimore, local Ministry of Education and Vocational Training (MoEVT), and Tanzania Institute for Education (TIE).

Qualification Requirements:

Professional Qualifications

  • University Degree in film, media arts, broadcast journalism, or related field.
  • A proven experience in all aspects of video production or post production.
  • Experience in designing and producing educational films for a school-age audience.
  • Knowledge of local digital content providers and technology-related companies.
  • Experience in working with international NGOs in education-related projects is desirable.

Personal Characteristics

  • Must be a self starter, who takes initiative and works with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work well in a team.
  • Flexible, adaptable and able to work well under pressure.
  • Fluent in English and Kiswahili with excellent written and oral communication skills.
