Truong Nguyen came to IYF in 2013 after serving as a Peace Corps volunteer in Indonesia where he taught English at a Madrasah and aided in community development activities. During this time, he worked with village counterparts and the Indonesian state government to construct Manejo FM, a volunteer-run, village radio station that broadcast to approximately 20 villages. He also collaborated with community partners to plan, fundraise, and implement construction of an athletic facility and established the area’s first girls’ basketball team. Inspired by his travel to Nicaragua, Truong and two university friends established the Pyxis Foundation, which promotes educational and social initiatives in Nicaragua through fundraising for academic scholarships and school supplies for disadvantaged young people. Truong has a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Quinnipiac University, where he was on the Division I soccer team. He speaks Vietnamese, Bahasa Indonesia, and Malayu at an advanced level.
