Where We Work: Germany

In 1994, just five years after the fall of the Berlin Wall, we provided seed funding for the creation of the German Children and Youth Foundation (DKJS).

Empowering this new local partner with our knowledge and facilitating connections between the new staff and local leadership, our earliest efforts here supported youth in eastern Germany, with an emphasis on democracy, cultural tolerance, and the environment. More than 20 years later, DKJS is a thriving member of our global partner network. Germany was also part of our Make a Connection initiative, in partnership with Nokia, and most recently figures among the countries studied in the inaugural Global Youth Wellbeing Index.
