Skills for Youth (SkY)

With this initiative, we sought to do in Rajasthan, Delhi, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh what we’ve being doing around the world: connecting disadvantaged youth with the skills and training needed to secure jobs and improve their situation in life. To address the country’s talent gap, we worked with local government and key stakeholders to identify existing challenges and increase the effectiveness of available government-run programs. Drawing on previous experience in India, we worked with partner QUEST alliance to lead two SkY initiatives from 2009 to 2011. The first project integrated life skills into a network of government vocational training centers in four states. A second tested and expanded an in-school career orientation curriculum in Delhi public secondary schools.
